Have a question for Epoxy.com?  If so, please email Epoxy.com Technical Support.

Patching and Coating With Epoxy.com Products at and Below the Water Line

Q: I am looking for a material that I can use to patch and coat a concrete seawall.  I need to repair areas where the salt damage has eaten away
the concrete, and protect the rest of the surfaces. The area I need to do is in the tidal zone.  I can clean up the concrete, dry it up (if I
need to) and apply the a material  during low tide, but the product will need to be either very fast setting or be able to cure under water when
the tide comes in.  What do you recommend?

Norm Lambert: First you will want to do good surface prepartion – www.epoxy.com/surfaceprep.aspx. Then you will want to use Epoxy.com Product #707 Splash Zone Coating and Underwater Paste is a moisture-insensitive, two-component, 100% solids epoxy-resin system. When mixed at a 1:1 ratio, by volume, this product produces a paste-like material that is ideal for protection or restoration of concrete, steel and timber piles and other structural elements in marine environments. It will easily do what you are looking to do and a whole lot more as well.

Epoxy.com Product #707 Splash Zone Coating and Underwater Paste has a long pot-life, and is available in a
fast Cure.  Epoxy.com Product #707 Splash Zone Coating and Underwater Paste can be hand applied, above, at or below the water line.
It resists wave action and will even bond to wet surfaces.

What Epoxy for a Mechanical Room Floor.

August 18, 2010

I have a concrete mechanical room floor that I want to install a waterproof coating over. It has areas under it that I do not want to get wet. Due to the vibration I want to be sure we have good crack isolation for the concrete floor as well as being waterproof. Which Epoxy.com Coating System do you recommend?

Norm Lambert:

1.Prepare the concrete properly – www.epoxysystems.com/surfaceprep.aspx.

2. If there are any random cracks, repair them with Epoxy.com Product #685 – www.epoxysystems.com/685.htm MMA Polymer Crack Healer & Sealer. This material will weld the cracks back together structurally, making it as though the cracks never happened.

3. Fill any saw cut relieve joints with Epoxy.com Product #11 – www.epoxysystems.com/11.htm 100% Solids Epoxy Joint Filler.

4. Cold joints can be saw-cut and filled with Epoxy.com Product #11.  If cold joints are large enough, saw cutting may be optional.  Or if the cold joints are to be non-moving you can fill them with Epoxy.com Product #685.

5. Install 1 coat of Epoxy.com Product #899 –  www.epoxysystems.com/899.aspx  –  100% Solids Low-Mod Low Viscosity Zero (0) VOC Epoxy Primer at a rate of 250-300 SF per gallon per coat. Allow to dry overnight.

6. Install 2 coats of Epoxy.com Product #32 –www.epoxysystems.com/32.aspx – Epoxy.com Product #32 100% Solids Flexible Epoxy Membrane – Crack Isolation Epoxy. Allow to dry overnight after both coats.

7. Install 2 coats of Epoxy.com Product #2 – www.epoxy.com/2.htm – 100% Solids Epoxy Based Chemical Resistant Coating with an optional Epoxy Product#50 (small) or Product #51 (large) Anti-Skid additive. Epoxy.com Product#50 and #51 are polypropylene beads that mix with your Product #2 to produce the desired Anti-skid.

How to care for Epoxy.com Seamless Flooring and Coatings

August 17, 2010

Care and Maintenance ofEpoxy.com Flooring Systems and Coatings

Daily Maintenance of Seamless Floorings and Floor Coatings

  • Sweep the floors daily.
  • If abrasive particles  are present they should be removed by mopping
with common household detergents and rinsed completely.  Be sure not to
use the detergent at a concentration higher than that recommended by the
manufacturer of the floor cleaning material.  Be sure to test any
cleaner that you haven’t used before on a sample of the Seamless
Flooring Material or Seamless Floor coating.  You may want to be sure to
prepare these samples as you are installing the floor so they will be
available to you at a later time.
  • Promptly remove grease, and other contaminants from the surface of
    the floor.
  • Be sure to rinse off all chemical solutions that may attack the
    surface.

Weekly Maintenance of Seamless Flooring and Floor Coatings

Smooth Systems

All seamless flooring and floor coatings should be mopped
on a regular bases with a neutral soap or detergent, and completely rinsed.
Be sure not to use the detergent at a concentration higher than that
recommended by the manufacturer of the floor cleaning material.

Be sure to test any cleaner that you haven’t used before
on a sample of the Seamless Flooring Material or Seamless Floor coating.

Mop should be rinsed often. Synthetic mops tend to work
better on textured surfaces than cotton mops. The water should be changed
frequently as well. Smooth floors are easily cleaned this way. It may be
necessary to give extra care to areas that are subject to heavy traffic,
hard rubber wheels, and steel wheels that leave marks. In these situations
you can use the methods used for textured floors for these more difficult to
remove contamination.

Textured Systems

Textured systems may require the use of a stiff bristled
brush or floor scrubber to reach to bottom of the anti-skid texture.  Severe
problem areas can be treated as follows:

Grease Removal

Grease is typically removed by Tri-sodium phosphate (TSP)
or other commonly available biodegradable cleaner. Contact Epoxy.com
Technical Support Department with your specific questions.

Removing Dairy Products

Dairy products should be removed immediately as they may
cause staining on some types of seamless flooring and seamless floor coating
systems.

Tire Marks Removal

Scrub the area(s) with a stiff bristled brush and using
the same biodegradable floor cleaner that you are using to mop with.

Stubborn Dirt or Stain Removal

When you are trying to remove stubborn dirt or stains,
allow the biodegradable cleaner to set in the area for a little while longer
and do the work for you. Then completely rinse to area to remove the cleaner
and the dirt.

Chemical Spills

You should always rinse strong chemicals as quickly as
possible completely from the surface. Chemicals allowed to dry on the
surface typically become more concentrated as they dry.  That may cause the
chemical to get concentrated enough to stain or even attack the seamless
floor or seamless floor coating.

Waxing and Polishing of Seamless Flooring and Seamless
Floor Coatings

Epoxy.com Epoxy and Urethane Seamless Flooring and
Seamless Floor Coating Systems are very shinny and so waxing or polishing
are not necessary.  If a floor is very old, or has seen extremely high
traffic this shine may dull.  If it does then you can wax or polish the
floor with standard commercial products that are designed for that purpose.
Better yet, if this happens, you may want to renew or refinish your system –
see below.

Renewing and Refinishing Seamless Flooring and Seamless
Floor Coating Systems

Epoxy.com Epoxy and Urethane Seamless Flooring and
Seamless Floor Coating Systems are designed to withstand heavy traffic and
wear.  However, if there is enough traffic and/or abuse to cause the system
to loose its shine, or show visible signs of wear, you may wish to restore
the floor by “re-glazing” it.  Before re-glazing a flooring system or
coating system you need to do the following:
